The Junkers F 24 was the single-engine cargo aircraft conversion of the Junkers G 23 and G 24 types.Ernst Zindel was responsible for the conversion. Compared to the G 24, the passenger compartment was cleared, and the baggage compartment and bathroom were removed. The center wing sections, from which the G 24's two outboard engines were mounted, were removed, reducing the wingspan. This conversion was first carried out in the spring of 1928.

Initially, a 551 kW (approx. 750 hp) BMW VIu was installed; these aircraft (seven of them) were designated F 24ko.

Further conversions (F 24kau) received the 507 kW (approx. 690 hp) BMW VIIau, which ultimately did not see series production.

The F 24kay version received a 529 kW (approx. 720 hp) Junkers Jumo 4 two-stroke opposed-piston diesel engine. This conversion was preceded by trials with a Junkers F04 engine in 1929. This conversion was so successful that some models that had already been converted from G 24 to F 24 were converted again to this engine.
F.24ko
k2o   Single-engine version of the G 24 without wing spacers. New engine mounting for the BMW Vlu.The maximum permissible takeoff weight was reduced to 4,700 kg.
F.24kau Instead of the BMW Vlu, this model was equipped with a BMW VIIaU. The takeoff weight was 4,600 kg.
        k2au
F.24kay Equipped with a Jumo 4 diesel engine (designated Jumo 204 from 1934) and certified for a takeoff weight of 5,000 kg.
F.24kae Test vehicles for the Daimler Benz DB 600 and 601
        k2ay
F.24kai Experimental version with Junkers Jumo 211.

The F 24k2o, k2au, and k2ay models had reinforced engine bays and were equipped with electronic brake wheels.
