The idea of equipping a glider with an auxiliary engine. is not new. Since the beginnings of gliding, attempts have been made again and again to motorize simple gliders in order to improve performance and enable longer flights. In some cases, more powerful engines were used, whose performance was sufficient for the climb.
In the post-war years, a number of well-known aircraft manufacturers were busy with the task of developing simple motor gliders using school gliders that were scattered everywhere. The fact
that little has been said about such work in recent times is due to the fact that building regulations and official regulations offer little opportunity for approval. The adjacent drawing shows a design of such a converted Sdiulg glider (GS 20 "Kautz") by Count Saurma Jeltsch. Two motorcycle engines, whose cylinders protrude from the fuselage side walls, drive a pressure screw by means of chains. However, nothing has been known about practical experiments so far.
