After a mine-laying sortie off Borkum it landed in a boggy field neat L÷wenstein Castle at Gorinchem in Holland on August 16, 1942. It had nosed over but was virtually undamaged. The Stirling was moved to the nearby field at Gilze-Rijen, where the nose was patched up with canvas and webbing for a ferry flight to Rechlin. There a more permanent nose fairing was applied.
