The Junkers Ju 85 project is the design of a twin-engine fast bomber based on the Junkers Ju 88.
In 1937, when the Reich Ministry of Aviation wanted the Ju 88 to be equipped with a rearward defensive armament, but this could not be fulfilled due to the central tail of this type, Junkers in Dessau decided on the parallel design Ju 85, which was characterized by about 90% of the parts being the same as the Ju 88. The main difference between these two types was the double tail unit of the Ju 85.
Ju 85 A
The Ju 88 V3 served as the starting pattern for this variant. Without further changes, the double tail unit was integrated and an MG 7.92 mm was mounted as a B-stand. The Ju 85 A was not pursued further after the dummy was built, as the defensive armament appeared to be too low.
Ju 85 B
The Ju 85 A was further modified and equipped with a fully glazed warhead similar to that of the Junkers Ju 188. 4 MG 7.92 mm were now installed in this fighting head. After the dummy construction in 1939, however, the type was abandoned because the low air resistance of the central tail of the Ju 88 was now preferred again
The engine was 2 Jumo 211 A/B.
