Under this project number, the development of the Ju 49 high-altitude research aircraft was underway. On February 16, 1928, the plan to create a high-altitude research aircraft together with the DVL (German Aerospace Center) and the Emergency Association of German Science was first discussed. A note dated May 26, 1928, states that the construction work had already begun. in progress. A month later, on June 26, 1928, a so-called technical meeting regarding the “High-Altitude Aircraft EF 29” order took place – this is where the EF number appears for the first time. On February 4, 1929, JFA finally submitted its final offer to the DVL for the “High-Altitude Research Aircraft EF 29/J 49”, and the official order was placed by the DVL on October 24, 1929. However, it would be another two years before the aircraft, now designated Ju 49, finally took off on its maiden flight on October 2, 1931.
