Twin-engine fast bomber with a 1000 kg payload and a top speed of 500 km/h as a precursor to the later Ju 88. Initial designs were available in mid-August 1935, and in November 1935, coordination took place with the RLM (Reich Air Ministry) regarding the final design of the aircraft, by then designated EF 59. Detailed design work then began. The type designation Ju 88 was likely finalized in the spring of 1936, and on December 21, 1936, the Ju 88 V1 took off for its maiden flight.
